The route for the 2010 Nanaimo2Victoria is the same as for the final stage of the Tour de Rock, South on Highway 1, the Trans-Canada highway.
Despite riding on a major arterial, the group will enjoy the protection of the police and other support. This picturesque, non-technical road is ideal for a large group ride. Highway 1 heads south between the island mountains and the Georgia Strait coastline, with views of the ocean, the Gulf Islands and the Coast Mountains on the mainland. You will pass through Ladysmith, Chemainus, Duncan, Mill Bay, over the Malahat pass, through the Westshore and into Greater Victoria. There are gentle climbs along the route including the iconic climb of the Malahat, a milestone for fitness used by many riders in the region. The grade is gentle, but approximately 6 km long, with spectacular views of Finlayson Arm, a fjord-like inlet.
The winding descent of the Malahat leads into the final stop in the Westshore before we join up with the 20k riders and together take on the final leg into the downtown area ending at picturesque Clover Point.
Check back as we finalize the route. Once it's finalized we will be adding a route map so you can count the kilometers well in advance of pedaling them!
